A wonderful place to visit for you and your whole family

I

t may be the lowlands of Scotland, but Dumfries and Galloway is just as beautiful a region as its Highland counterpart.

From gorgeous seas to inland forests and hills, the views are breathtaking – and there is plenty to see and do, no matter your interest.

The region is also host to a number of towns and villages, each with its own unique character and offering interesting shops, boutiques and eateries to visit, whether you are passing through or staying for a few days.

One such town is the world-famous Gretna Green. Many elopements, including that of the famous huntsman John Peel, ended happily there, while the village has provided novelists with innumerable romantic stories of lovers driving furiously to Gretna Green pursued by irascible fathers or guardians on horseback or in carriages.

For the outdoorsy, there are nature reserves, parks, gardens, biking trails and much more. For people who enjoy a bit of history, there are numerous attractions, including the Striding Arches, Drumlanrig Castle and Sweetheart Abbey. There’s also plenty of golf courses to hone your skills.

And for those looking for cultural experiences, Dumfries and Galloway is known as the home for several years of National Bard Robert Burns. Despite only living for 37 years, Burns’ influence on Scotland and the culture is undeniable – and his legacy remains visible across the region, including at Ellisland Farm, where he built a home for his family.

No matter your interest, a trip to Dumfries and Galloway is sure to enthrall and offer a chance for rest and relaxation for all the family.
