LEAGUE 1 ROUND-UP

-

John Sheridan managed to end Fleetwood’s mammoth eight-game losing spree as his first match in charge finished in a 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers MK Dons.

A crucial three points still eludes Fleetwood, but just days after taking over the hot-seat from Uwe Rosler Sheridan saw his men fight back to retain their five-point gap on the Dons.

It was not the best start for the new Town head coach as he saw his side fall behind in the 20th minute through Robbie Muirhead.

Town forward Conor McAleny rattled the woodwork seconds later, but the home faithful had to wait for the 54th minute to see their side level as Ashley Hunter pounced and rifled the ball home.

Kyle Vassell tucked home after a defensive error as Blackpool cruised to a 2-0 victory over Portsmouth at Fratton Park. And the Tangerines doubled their lead through Clark Robertson in the 63rd minute as he was left unmarked in the home side’s area which left him with a simple header to secure the win.

A 12th-minute goal from Michael Jacobs was the difference between Wigan and Rochdale in a hard-fought clash low on quality.

Jacobs found the ball at his feet on the edge of the penalty area, and his left-foot shot fizzed into the bottom corner of the Dale net.

Bury climbed back off the bottom after beating Gillingham 2-1, with goals from Neil Danns and Harry Bunn.

In the south Yorkshire derby, Rotherham netted a winning penalty 13 minutes into injury-time to beat rivals Doncaster 2-1. The Millers had levelled 10 minutes earlier via Michael Smith after John Marquis put Rovers in front.
