LEAGUE 2 ROUND-UP

-

Kevin Ellison scored twice on the day after his 39th birthday, as struggling Morecambe made a mockery of the form book with a 4-2 victory over promotionchasing Wycombe.

The Shrimps hadn’t won in their last six games, but they had an early gift when Nathan McGinley flicked Michael Rose’s long throw away from his own goalkeeper, giving Adam McGurk an empty net to head into at the back post.

Ellison then smashed an unstoppable halfvolley across Scott Brown into the top corner.

It got even better for the visitors, as Ellison thumped in a far-post header, before McGurk was allowed to cut inside and score to make it 4-0 after 52 minutes.

Wycombe finally found a response through a daisy-cutter from sub Nick Freeman, before Luke O’Nien’s crisp volley left Paddy Roche standing to pull a second back late on.

Carlisle won their third successive league match as a Hallam Hope strike sealed a 1-0 win at Yeovil.

Hope scored the only goal of the game in the 48th minute after being given too much time on the left flank to cut inside and send it into the far corner.

Kayden Jackson celebrated his 13th goal of the season to lift Accrington into second spot after a 1-0 win over in-form Cambridge.

The managerless Us had won their last three games, but came up against Stanley who now have six straight victories at the Wham Stadium.

Stanley grabbed the winner after 57 minutes when Jackson pressed defender George Taft, won the ball and turned and fired home.

Jordan Bowery scored twice as Crewe thumped Lincoln 4-1 to boost their survival hopes.
