MP: Farage wouldsmile at Corbyn’s Brexit plans

-

Jeremy Corbyn’s comments on Brexit and immigration would have made Nigel Farage smile, one of his MPs has claimed.

The UK Labour leader said the deal on Brexit must allow a future Labour Government to “stop employers being able to import cheap agency labour” from Europe “to undercut existing pay and conditions”.

This angered Edinburgh South MP Ian Murray. Speaking at a Fringe event, he said: “Immigration is good for the UK and Scotland.

“I was incredibly disappointed to see the only person smiling after that passage of Jeremy’s speech would have been Nigel Farage.”

Richard Leonard warned delegates that as “democratic socialists” they must join him in accepting the will of the people.

Meanwhile, Scottish fishermen demanded an immediate exit from the Common Fisheries Policy when Britain leaves the European Union.

The Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) insists the UK must be able to operate as “a fullyfunctioning coastal state” after it leaves in 2019.

The call is one of several “red lines” which the industry is warning the UK Government not to cross in Brexit negotiations.

SFF chief executive Bertie Armstrong said: “We simply will not accept a continuation of the status quo for almost two years.

“The PM spoke of ensuring ‘fairer shares’ for our fishermen – that must mean an immediate end to the current situation in which EU vessels are entitled, gratis, to 60% of the fish in UK waters while our own vessels are allowed to catch just 40%.”
