From stately homes to classy cafés, you’ll never be bored

-

The gardens of Edinburgh and the Lothians are some of the most impressive in the country.

For starters, there is a wealth of stately homes and castles with decades of history behind them.

Many of their gardens have been lovingly created to be as they once were way back when. It’s not just the formal and traditional that are worth visiting, though.

Some of the garden centres in the area are worth checking out. They’re set in acres of garden ground, which is all lovingly cared for.

A wander through them will get you buzzing with ideas and suggestions for what you can create in your own garden. They are perfect for strolling through on a spring day.

Many of the places in this area are a child’s idea of paradise, too, with green spaces to run wild in and nooks and crannies for them to explore and fire their imaginations.

For a great example of the kind of centre that’s a cut above the average, check out the Secret Herb Garden, nestling at the foot of the Pentland Hills.

It’s a fun and relaxing place to spend a couple of hours and you’re bound to take something home.

A lovely day out isn’t complete without something to eat and drink. And you’ll be spoiled for choice within Edinburgh and the Lothians. There are so many people making a living from a great café culture.

Whether a decadent slice of cake is your thing, or you prefer a savoury sandwich which is a meal in itself, there is plenty out there for you.

Taking a wander along the Water of Leith allows you a peek into some inspirational gardens. It’s one of the prettiest areas of Edinburgh.

As if that wasn’t enough, lots of gardens are gearing up for spring and summer events.

If you’re visiting a National Trust for Scotland property, check it out to see if they are hosting a Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt.

They’re becoming a bit of a tradition and are great fun. And yes, all the children taking part will get a lovely sweet treat at the end of it.

There are several to choose from across Edinburgh and the Lothians, so you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Don’t forget the Scotland’s Gardens Scheme, either.

Like the best plants, it grows and flourishes every year. We reckon this year is one of the best yet.

It’s a chance to see some private gardens that are nothing short of amazing.

Not to be missed.
