LEAGUE 2 ROUND-UP

-

Despite extending their unbeaten run to seven games, it was a case of two points lost for Carlisle as a 1-1 draw with Cambridge did little for their play-off hopes,

Richie Bennett gave the Cumbrians the lead, only for George Maris to strike straight back.

A superb save from Cambridge keeper David Forde to thwart Bennett saw the sides go in level at the break.

Bennett, though, put the Cumbrians ahead two minutes after the restart, supplying the final touch after Ashley Nadesan had turned a ball back across goal.

The lead did not last long because ex-Carlisle striker Jabo Ibehre’s header into the six-yard enabled Maris to nod home from close range for a 49th-minute leveller.

Morecambe and Lincoln shared the spoils in a 0-0 stalemate at the Globe Arena. In a game of few opportunities, both teams had to settle for a point, although both went close to snatching all three.

Lincoln had more chances, with Scott Wharton denied by a superb Dean Winnard block early on, while Matt Green miscued from close range.

Elliott Whitehouse wasted several chances for the Imps after the break, before Adam McGurk almost claimed a late win for the Shrimps with a free-kick from 25 yards out, that keeper Ryan Allsop brilliantly pushed onto the bar.

Marc McNulty bagged a hat-trick as Coventry thrashed Grimsby 4-0, there were eight goals at Crawley, with Harry Pell and Mo Eisa both scoring twice as Cheltenham won 5-3, while Crewe triumphed 2-1 at Newport – with Harry McKirdy and Jordan Bowery on target – to virtually secure safety.
