Todorov’s last-gasp strike saves a point for Queens

-

Livvi manager David Hopkin was flaming that his side had been denied a goal that would have put the points beyond doubt when Ryan Hardie swept the ball home with the score at 3-2.

He said: “Not even a Queens player protested when the ball went into the net ….it would have made it 4-2 and the points would have been secured.

“But for some reason it was adjudged offside.”

And it would have capped a tremendous comeback by the Livvi players who had been two down after 20 minutes.

The manager added: “I was disappointed at losing the two goals but the players showed plenty of spirit in coming back.”

Livvi had gone into the game with an unbeaten league run of nine games – their last defeat being at home when they went down 1-0 to Queen of the South.

But they had a couple of frights when a first a break from Queens saw Stephen Dobbie unfortunate with a drive from the edge of the box which crashed off the post. Then Josh Todd sent a ball across the face of the goal and Alan Lithgow just managed to get a foot to it as the striker stood ready to slip it into the net.

But Queens did break the deadlock just before the half hour mark when Todd crossed from the left for Dobbie to turn the ball back into the path of Joe Thomson who hit it home from 20 yards.

And a minute later Queens were two up when Dom Thomas beat the defenders to turn the ball into Lyndon Dykes and he made no mistake from close range.

Livvi pulled themselves back into it three minutes from the break when Shaun Rooney conceded a foul on the edge of the box and Rafael De hit a low shot into the corner of the net.

Then a tremendous spell for Livvi just after the break as first they pulled level when a long throw in by Alan Lithgow saw Craig Halkett beat the Dumfries defenders to head home from close in.

And it was no surprise when they went ahead on the 60 minute mark as Hardie – with his first touch in coming on as substitute – got on the end of a cross which floated over the defenders to head past the stranded keeper.

Queens tried to get themselves back into the game but could make no impression on the Livvi defence and it seemed all over when Hardie hit the net again … but the flag went up.

Then the final drama in injury time as a long ball into the Livvi defence saw substitute Nikolay Todorov latch on to a loose ball in a goalmouth scramble and smashed it home for a point.

Queens manager Gary Naysmith was unhappy at again seeing his side relinquish the lead, but said: “Very happy to get a point but I feel we threw away a twogoal lead though I can only say the players did keep going and we found a goal and kept a point.”
