Shay: Dons’ home form will secure second place

- By Mark Guidi SPORT@SUNDAYPOST.COM

Shay Logan hopes that Aberdeen’s fine home form will see them clinch second place in the SPFL Premiership.

The Dons beat Kilmarnock yesterday for their first game after the split and now have three games in a row at Pittodrie – Hearts, Hibs and Rangers – and three wins may well be enough to clinch the runners-up position, although it’s more likely they will need to take something from their final game which is away to Celtic.

Logan hopes it can be achieved and feels the management and team will deserve enormous credit as plenty of other top- six sides have been getting pats on the back for their performances in this campaign.

Logan – who scored the second goal against Kilmarnock yesterday – said: “That was a great win for us. Naturally, we are delighted.

“This was always going to be a tough game and it was important to bounce back from the defeat to Motherwell.

“We were still down on Monday and the place was quiet. But Tuesday and Wednesday we were upbeat and fully focused.

“We want to finish in second place. We face some strong teams and it starts on Friday night against Hearts.

“But we very rarely lose at home and that has to give us confidence to achieve what we want to achieve.

“But, of course, the other teams will also feel they can do it.

“It means there are going to be many exciting games in the top six and there isn’t going to be much room for error.

“We are a good team, we work hard and we have a good team spirit.

“We have been the closest challengers to Celtic many times in the past three or four seasons and we want to how we can do it again.”

Logan missed the Motherwell defeat and felt helpless on the sidelines and said: “I wanted to be out there, trying to do my bit.

“But there was nothing I could do. Of course, that is very frustrating.

“We would have loved to have been in another cup final but it wasn’t to be.

“It’s now about aiming for second place and that has to be a real positive for us. We feel we can do it and we have to go and show it.”
