A CLASSIC IN CULROSS

GP’s home in Culross is a spacious stunner

Doctor’s stylish villa will leave you amazed.

WHEN it comes to easy, stylish living, this family home in the enchanting Royal Burgh of Culross is quite literally just what the doctor ordered.

The bespoke, detached villa at 2 Veere Park – just eight miles from Dunfermline – was commissioned by Dr John Burt with his son Aedan in mind.

Dr Burt – who is also a genealogist and author – tells iN10: “We commissioned the build ourselves to meet Aedan’s important needs. He had his neck broken in a road traffic collision and is paralysed from the neck down.”

The brief was to create a spacious, light and bright home with wide doors and corridors and an easy to access and maintain landscaped area outside, as well as plenty of parking for cars.

The Burts brought in NJSR McLean of Glasgow to handle the building’s design, and landscape architects McGregor McMahon of Edinburgh and Robin Swinton of Perth. Quantity Surveyors were Doig Hart Consultants, Glasgow, with Trentham Construction as the main contractor.

And the fruits of their labour are stunning, with the creation of an uber-chic four bedroom, two sitting-room home which also features a fabulous self-contained, two bedroom apartment.

Dr Burt, 58, who moved in in 2002 says: “It took over a year to complete and we were very pleased with it. The house has lots of space and light. It features automatic doors and a passenger lift as well as well-lit, wide-open spaces and a back-up generator.”

The house has an expansive hall that boasts oodles of storage space and gives access to the first stylish sitting room with a wood burning stove.

The modern fitted kitchen is also large and has a breakfast bar and space for a large dining table.

And a smart, semi-circular conservatory overlooking the front garden has access from both the sitting room and dining area.

Also on the ground floor is the large master bedroom which has a dressing room and an ensuite bathroom. There are three further bedrooms on this floor, two of which have ensuite facilities.

The first floor is accessed by both the stairs and the lift and contains a further large sitting room with a balcony, as well as an office, and an open plan work area and a play area.

Two additional bedrooms, a bathroom and a sitting room on this level form the apartment, which sits above a large integral garage and can easily be incorporated back into the main house. It also has its own separate staircase.

Outside there are attractive garden grounds with a circular path leading to a barbecue area with water feature. Two driveways provide off street parking for several cars.

But it’s all-change for the family once again. Dr Burt explains: “My son is now 24 years old and has his own house in St Andrews. He is currently taking a M.Sc. in Brewing and Distilling by distance learning from HeriotWatt University. I have retired from my GP job in Dunfermline and it is time to down-size.

“We have loved this property; its size, situation and views. And we will miss Culross. It has a very pleasant community spirit.”

Their home is being marketed by KnightFrank for offers over £595,000.
