Beyonce, Jay-Z and the rolling Stones play on super Saturday
Scotland’s music fans enjoyed a superstar Saturday last night as the world’s biggest stars hit the stage on opposite sides of the country.
Rock and roll legends the Rolling Stones were due to play in Edinburgh for the first time in 19 years.
Meanwhile at Hampden in Glasgow, A- list couple Beyonce and Jay- Z were Crazy in Love as they planned a spectacular show for the only Scots stop- off on their world tour.
More than 50,000 fans flocked to Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium to see the Stones, paying up to £400 for tickets.
Among them was Caroline Mitre, aged 33, from Argentina.
She said: “They’re the biggest band in history and they’ve been together for more than 50 years. I was born listening to the Rolling Stones.”
Sarah Cull, 36, Edinburgh, said: “I’m a big fan of the Rolling Stones. This may be the last time we ever see them again. I grew up and listened to them and my dad has got all the original vinyl and so this concert is major. I’ve never seen them before.”
In Glasgow, around 34,000 fans descended on Hampden to see billion-dollar couple Beyonce, 36, and Jay-Z, 48, on the second night of their joint On The Run II tour.
Ricardo Ramos, 35, and Chris McCartney, 29, had travelled from Belfast.
Ricardo said it was the sixth time he had seen Beyonce.
He said: “I am so overwhelmed to be in Glasgow at this gig.”
Chris said the fact the superstar couple were appearing together made it more special.
He said: “With a particular artist or celebrity you feel emotionally involved and seeing them together you get to see them portray their marriage on stage.”
Claire Kenny and Nicole Fotiou, both 22 and students in Glasgow, had glitter- painted faces to see their hero Beyonce. Claire said: “We really want to be near the front.
“We have never seen her before so it is really exciting.”
Fans paid upwards of £ 73 for tickets, with the most expensive seats yesterday priced at £165.
Excitement had begun to grow in Edinburgh after the Stones’ tour plane landed on Thursday. Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards were then spotted arriving at their city centre hotel.
Crowds watched as Ronnie, 71, and wife Sally Humphreys, 40, carried two- year- old girls Alice and Gracie into the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh.
Lead singer Mick Jagger, 74, once famed for his wild rock and roll lifestyle, was snapped enjoying a stroll in the Pentland Hills on the eve of the gig.
