Clyde have snapped up veteran midfielder John Rankin and set their sights on winning promotion from League 2.

The 34-year-old was a free agent after leaving Queen of the South at the end of last season.

He was recently coaching at the SPFA exit trials and has now found himself the eighth club of his career.

Rankin signed a oneyear deal with the Broad wood club on Friday night.

He said: “I’m a local boy, I could probably walk to the stadium, and that was a big part of it, as well as the club’s ambition to win the league or get promoted.

“That is massive in the stage of my career to try and achieve something like that.

“I don’t think anyone would shy away from winning the league. It’s all about getting promotion. Everyone will say it doesn’ t matter how you do it, it’s about getting the club into a higher league and that is what we can achieve.”

Bully Wee boss Danny Lennon added: “In John we have acquired a player with great experience, superb technical ability, effective leadership and a winning mentality.

“Those qualities, added to the exciting mix of players we have in place for the coming season, will help us to deliver a season we can be proud of.”

n A former Dundee striker who forced Holland legend Dirk Kuyt out of retirement has teamed up with his twin brother.

And Yordi Teijsse left his former club with a blast from the chairman ringing in his ears.

Striker Teijsse was sent into exile by Dutch club Quick Boys at the end of last season after a dispute with assistant manager Kuyt.

He walked off the field midway through a match and was replaced by the veteran for the last eight games of the campaign.

Teijsse was a massive flop at Dens Park, scoring only once in 11 appearances.

His latest move is to buy out his own contact and join AFC Amsterdam, where he will be a team- mate of his brother, Kenny.

Former Quick Boys chairman Henk- Jan van Maanen said: “He had a great need for attention, but not in the way that was needed.

“He is someone who has a great need for attention and publicity.

“It wasn’t a problem with Dirk Kuyt, but the fact that your star player, who was brought in with great effort, was maintained and pampered to behave differently.”
