Saints are a stepping stone to bigger things for Stubbsy

-

St Mirren should be delighted they’ve got Alan Stubbs as manager.

Right now, having lost the boss who won them promotion, the Buddies need somebody who can go in and galvanise the dressing-room.

They need an inspirational gaffer who’ll drag them to the next level.

Neil Warnock did exactly that at Cardiff City last season – and it worked wonders.

Everybody wrote them off, but they didn’t reckon with Neil.

And I reckon a big, honest guy like Stubbsy is just the man to do the same job in Paisley.

Don’t get me wrong, seeing Jack Ross move on to Sunderland will have been a big plus for Alan.

And the praise Steve Clarke has received for the job he’s done at Kilmarnock will have been a factor too.

Steve was beginning to be forgotten before his stint at Rugby Park.

Now he’s on the radar for big jobs – and Stubbs will think he can do the same thing.

That’s only natural now he’s tasted glory with Hibs.

He doesn’t have to win anything at St Mirren.

The fans there won’t expect miracles.

But if their new manager can get a settled team on the park, and get off to a decent start, the belief levels will skyrocket – and I believe Stubbsy is more than capable.
