High-paid charity boss takes up £130k job in US
The former “fat cat” boss of Scotland’s leading animal charity has landed a new job in the United States.
Stuart Earley, 60, will begin his new role as CEO of the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County tomorrow.
The animal rescue charity has a similar remit to the Scottish SPCA and is based in Washington state.
Announcing their new boss, the Humane Society said Mr Earley was an “an exceptionally talented and renowned animal welfare leader.”
It added: “We are determined to become a national leader in the Animal Welfare movement, serving as a catalyst for leadership and innovation.
“Great Britain is a leader in the field of animal shelters and we want to take advantage of these standards of practice to build a world-class organization.”
Founded in 1888, The Humane Society is Washington’s largest animal welfare agency, according to its website.
Mr Earley is being paid considerably more than its previous boss, it’s been reported.
But his salary of £130,000 a year is far less than the £216,000 he earned at the Scottish SPCA.
He was forced to leave his job at the charity after an outcry about his pay after a series of exposés by The Sunday Post.
A source at the Scottish SPCA said: “Things have been a lot better since he left.
“The public were rightly concerned about the level of pay and bonuses he was getting, and that hit donations.”
