SCOTTS, HARBOUR ROAD, TROON

-

1 Location

It’s on the first floor at Troon Yacht Haven, but there is a lift available for access.

2 First impressions

It’s bright, modern and classy looking, and we couldn’t wait to step inside.

3 service

Obviously a really popular spot and there was a half-hour wait for a table, but they took our name and we were quickly shown to a table on our return. Service was attentive throughout and the staff demonstrated a really good knowledge of the dishes.

4 menu

Seafood is naturally the speciality with a selection of oysters, classic fish and chips and a trio of sea bass, salmon and hake. But there’s plenty for those not keen on fishy fare, including a really nice choice of steaks.

5 taste

The fajitas were spicy with loads of tender chicken pieces and the burger was well-flavoured with a good selection of sides. Both the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate fudge cake were scrummily moreish.

6 price

Around the £50 mark for two mains, two desserts, a bread platter with dips to start and a couple of drinks.

7 ambience

Low-key, music was at just the right level and there was a really nice buzz from a mix of diners. Mostly couples and families.

8 something special

There’s a lounge area and a conservatory which, happily, is where we found ourselves seated. The views over the rows of yachts in the marina directly below was stunning and if you are booking it’s more than worth requesting a conservatory table.

9 toilets

They were smart and clean, no complaints.

10 verdict

Hard to think of a better location than this Ayrshire seaside favourite. The panorama really adds to the dining experience.
