It is hard to believe, just dreadful, like losing a friend

- By Andy scott

It feels like the loss of an old friend.

It’s absolutely dreadful. I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears when I heard the news.

I was out with some friends when my phone started pinging.

It is such an iconic building, one of the most famous buildings in the world. If it can be saved it absolutely should be.

That is going to need some serious fundraising, though, and more support from the Government.

Maybe engineers and experts will say it can’t be saved and we need to rebuild it. The next few days will be crucial. For me, the legacy of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the worldrenowned fame of that building means it is definitely worth doing everything we can – this is the 150th anniversary of Mackintosh’s birth.

I just can’t get my head around how this could happen again. You would think there would be preventative measures in place. Maybe there were, maybe this is a complete freak incident.

We need to wait and see what the fire service says. They did an amazing job again from what I can see.

This feels like a personal loss. It will be the same for thousands of people, not just graduates and Glaswegians.

Everyone has lost something special. I will be back in Glasgow next week but I won’t be going to ogle at it. It would be too macabre.
