Game of Thrones stars marry in village kirk
Their characters first laid eyes on one another in a snowbound wasteland.
But yesterday actors Kit Harington and Rose Leslie enjoyed blazing sunshine when they tied the knot near her Aberdeenshire home.
The pair met while playing lovers Ygritte and Jon Snow in the hit TV series Game of Thrones.
Around 50 local well- wishers and fans of the show stood opposite the tiny 18th Century Rayne Church in the village of Kirkton and cheered as the celebrities arrived.
Kit, 31, who plays heartthrob Jon Snow smiled at the crowds before heading inside, while his bride greeted locals and waved as she arrived in a stunning vintage lace dress.
Rose, 31, arrived with her dad Sebastian Leslie at 4.20pm – 20 minutes later than expected – in a black Land Rover.
Her delicately beaded cream lace dress was paired with a long veil which covered her face and a simple white bouquet, while her short, wavy red hair was adorned with white flowers.
Mother of the bride Candy Leslie, wearing a red hat, shoes and dress, arrived with the bridesmaids, which included her sister Portia, who donned eclectic floral jumpsuits for the ceremony.
Cast members of the series who were guests included Emilia Clarke – who plays Daenerys Targaryen; Peter Dinklage – who plays Tyrion Lannister, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams – who play sisters Sansa and Arya Stark; Liam Cunningham – who plays Davos Seaworth; John Bradley – who plays Samwell Tarly; Ben Crompton – who plays Eddison Tollett; and Richard Madden – Robb Stark.
Other celebrity guests included Billions star Malin Akerman and her fiancée, actor Jack Donnelly; The Good Fight star Cush Jumbo, Cinderella actress Ho l li day
Grainger and members of the band Mumford and Sons, who were due to play at the reception.
The ceremony, which lasted around 50 minutes, was led by Fr Chad Boulton.
Following the short service, guests lined the pathway and applauded the happy couple, throwing confetti while a piper played.
The pair then drove off in a classic Land Rover Defender, adorned with a ‘just married’ sign and tin cans on the back.
They and their 200 guests were then whisked a mile down the road to the Leslie family’s ancestral home, 12th century Wardhill Castle.
Inverurie resident Camilla Killoh, had come to watch the couple arrive at the church with her 14- year- old daughter Eleanor.
The 43-year-old said she had been a fan of the show since it started, and was ecstatic to hear two of its most famous characters were getting married just minutes from her home.
She said: “It’s so surreal, that all these big stars are just in this tiny part of Aberdeenshire. It almost seems like you’re still watching them on television even though they are right in front of you.
“I have absolutely loved Game of Thrones since it started, and so has Eleanor, so we couldn’t miss seeing them get married.
“Rose looked absolutely wonderful, and the vintage style of her dress just looked beautiful. She’s so petite and it really suited her. It’s been fantastic.”
