I’m taking my new baby to Spain next week. What’s the best way to keep him from overheating?
It’s normal to be a bit anxious about bringing your new baby to a hot climate, particularly when they are not used to it. General measures I’d advise you take include avoiding prolonged periods outside. Where possible, spend periods of time in air-conditioned environments and, when outside, try to keep in the shade. It is also important to ensure your baby has a wide-brimmed hat, that they drink regularly and wear sun cream.
What does the kidney do?
The kidney is an interesting and vital organ in the body. It helps to keep the water balance of the body correct, filter and remove waste and toxins, help regulate blood pressure and plays a role in producing vitamin D, which keeps bones strong.
Is it normal to feel palpitations after smoking a cigarette?
Smoking can often cause heart palpitations due to the stimulating affects of nicotine on the body. There are many other causes of palpitations, which can include heart disease. If you have concerns then speak to your GP. If you are keen to stop, contact your pharmacy.
I’m 75 but would like to give blood. Is it safe to do so?
While there are particular medical conditions or reasons that you may not be able to donate, there is actually no upper age limit on giving blood. If you are unsure whether you can give blood, please contact your local donation centre. The Scotblood website also has useful information about whether it is safe for you to donate blood.
