Hartley happy as Bairns edge Airdrieonians

-

After seeing his FALKIRK side beat visiting AIRDRIEONIANS 3-2, Bairns boss Paul Hartley said: “I am happy with the workout and it is all about getting players matches before the season begins.”

Airdrie boss Steven Findlay commented: “It was a real test against a higher level of opponent and we kept at it throughout the match.”

The hosts led on five minutes when Petravicius took full advantage of the retreating defenders to curl the ball in at Scott Gallacher’s left-hand post.

They doubled their advantage in 16 minutes after Kevin O’Hara made of the most of his side’s quick counter-attack to curl a super effort into the corner.

Airdrie reduced the deficit in 27 minutes when fullback O’Neil drove into the box before drilling a low angled shot in at the far post past Mutch.

Falkirk reacted by scoring a third in 33 minutes. A well-worked short corner between Evans and O’Hara allowed Evans to have a great angle to deliver a far post cross that centre-back Dallison powered home.

A poor passbook in 75 minutes by former Diamond trials Luke Watt allowed Leighton McIntosh to follow in and home keeper Mutch blasted the ball against the striker with the ball rolling back into the net.

Goals in either half helped STIRLING ALBION to a 2-0 victory over STRANRAER at a sunny Stair Park.

The visitors broke the deadlock midway through the first half after good work on the right by Ross McGeachie.

Stranraer failed to deal with his cross and Jordan Allan was in the right place to divert Danny Jardine’s shot home from six yards.

The League 2 side doubled their advantage from the penalty spot eight minutes after the restart when David Smith was penalised for pulling in the box.

MacDonald made no mistake from 12 yards, sending Max Currie the wrong way.

A young DUNDEE UNITED side came out on top in the 25th Oban Tournament after winning all four games in the round-robin competition against HAMILTON ACCIES, ST JOHNSTONE, junior side ST ANTHONY’S and amateur hosts OBAN SAINTS.

A 2-0 win in their opening game against holders Hamilton sent the Tannadice team on their way with their goals coming from Alassan Jones and a trialist.

United then saw off Oban 2-0 with both their goals coming through a trialist, before St Johnstone were defeated 1-0.

That result secured the trophy before United faced St Anthony’s, and they completed a clean sweep with another 1-0 success.

Hamilton Accies beat Oban 3-0, with Jack Breen, Charlie Reilly and Niyah Joseph on target.

They also had a 1-0 success over St Anthony’s and a goalless draw with their Perth counterparts.

St Anthony’s finished third after picking up a 1-0 win over St Johnstone thanks to a goal from John Ball.

Oban also defeated St Johnstone 1-0.
