EAST COAST BURGERS, MONTROSE
1 LOCATION
Previously an amusemant arcade where generations went to flip their small change, it’s right on the seafront.
2 FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Bright and modern with nice heritage touches – a wall of old pennies. Warm and welcoming.
3 SERVICE
Excellent. The waitresses were patient – we asked lots of questions about the array of combinations, sides and specials! And also knowledgable about the fresh, local produce. All with a smile. Waiting time from order to food was spot on, too.
4 MENU
Fab choice of interesting and exciting flavour combos – original Aberdeen Angus, pork, chicken or veggie burgers with accompaniments from bacon and black pudding to jalapenos, aioli and avocado. Nachos, fries, salads, steaks, pasta and traditional mains. The daily specials are creative, too – a burger with bun flipped as a mini pizza!
5 TASTE
Fantastic! Succulent, meaty and packed full of flavour. The Big Bad Moo Coo (two Aberdeen Angus burgers, streaky bacon, cheddar, red onion, aoli and tomato relish with crisp salad) was expertly cooked. And, though it looked like a food mountain on the plate, the balance of tastes and small fresh side salad allowed Moo to be the rightful star of the show. One of the best burgers we’ve ever tasted. Likewise, the Notorious P.I.G. (the juiciest pork burgers with black pud and delicous sweet onion relish). Nice mac & cheese from the Little Calves Section, too.
6 SOMETHING SPECIAL
The food is the star here but we love the little touches showing the owner’s passion. A witty menu; drinks in glass bottles; milkshakes in mini milk urns; gluten and dairy-free options; Mum’s recipe coleslaw (delicious!); an ice bucket if you bring your own booze . . . the list goes on.
7 PRICE
Around £55 for three – mains and desserts.
8 AMBIENCE
Friendly, relaxed atmosphere with selection of soul and Motown music playing in the background.
9 TOILETS
Clean and functional.
10 VERDICT
