MAHONY’S, 181-83 KIRKINTILLOCH ROAD, BISHOPBRIGGS

-

1 Location

Just a minute’s walk from Bishopbriggs train station and right on the main road, so good for buses, too. With parking at the shopping centre opposite, transport options couldn’t be better.

2 First impressions

Bright, wooden exterior helps it stand out as it is right next to a well-established Italian restaurant and a bar/diner that has a good reputation. The interior is fresh, bright and airy. There’s an open kitchen at the back, with a pizza oven.

3 service

Couldn’t be faulted. Staff were attentive but not fussy, smiley and we were even offered a drink on the house while we were paying the bill.

4 menu

It’s a steak house, so needless to say there was no shortage of meaty options. But there were just enough other choices, too. We were ordering from the pre-theatre menu, and starters included grilled halloumi salad and mushrooms in a creamy sauce. Burgers, chops, sea bass and pizza and pasta options were among the mains. Chocolate fudge cake and cheesecake were a couple of the desserts.

5 taste

Everything was nicely done. The cheesy starters, halloumi and mozzarella sticks, set us up nicely for the mains.

6 price

At £15 for the three courses on the pre-theatre deal (plus a supplement for the steak) and drinks, the bill came to a reasonable £65.

7 ambience

There was a bit of live music, which was at just the right level and added to the warm, welcoming feel.

8 something speciaL

The steaks are said to be hand-picked and dryaged for up to 70 days and happily the 10oz rib eye steak – which had an additional charge of £4.95 – was super-tender and nicely cooked.

9 toiLets

Clean and tidy but down a steep flight of stairs.

10 verdict

A welcome addition to the local dining scene.
