RESTAURANT REVIEW

CAFE MONTMARTRE, 91 PERTH ROAD, DUNDEE

-

LOCATION

Just outside the city centre, in the trendy Perth Road area. There’s free parking nearby and the road is on a few different bus routes.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

This place is tiny! It has a handful of tables, is cosy and seems the perfect place for a get-away-from-it-all meal in the heart of the city. Our reviewing team all agrees it’s decorated in the style of an authentic French bistro. Then we realise none of us has been in an actual bistro in France. It feels right, though.

SERVICE

Faultless, with character. We’re three women with hearty appetites. When we clear our plates the waiter can’t resist telling us we have: “done well”. The service is efficient and not over-friendly, just right. We have gossip to catch up on!

MENU

A traditional selection of French and Mediterranean. There isn’t a huge choice on our lunch and early evening menu, but that isn’t a complaint, as everything sounds delicious. Main courses include crepes and pan-fried fillet of sea bass set on puy lentils with a carrot and leek sauce. Starters include hot smoked salmon pate.

TASTE

We are fussy and hard to please, but we love our food here. That sea bass on lentils is outstanding and the crepes are a little piece of heaven.

PRICE

Prices for the early evening menu which we have chosen from are £20.95 for two courses and £24.95 for three courses. It isn’t the cheapest in Dundee – but we are all agreed it’s worth it.

AMBIENCE

It’s the perfect place for relaxing and catching up with friends. No loud music, just the gentle hubbub of chit-chat and laughter.

SOMETHING SPECIAL

It’s the whole experience. Dundee is up-andcoming and there are lots of great places to eat. But this is our favourite. It’s no surprise it is consistently the No.1 restaurant on Trip Advisor.

TOILETS

Clean with flowers in the Ladies.

VERDICT

An affordable treat. Deserves its reputation. 18/20
