Driver told his address didn’t exist

-

When John Mowat moved home, he had no idea the amount of hassle it would cause with his car insurance. He recently relocated from Thurso on the north coast to Tornagrain, near Inverness, and on arriving in his new home immediately informed More Than insurance about the change. “I couldn’t believe it when the insurers then told me that our new postcode didn’t exist,” said John. “I was told that our car insurance was going to be cancelled as a result of this. “I was then informed that we would also be charged £50 for the policy being terminated early.” No amount of proof of the new address provided to More Than seemed to be enough for the company to persuade it to continue with the policy, according to John. “I explained to them that we pay our council rates, power services and house insurance at our new home and all of these people recognised our postcode,” he said. In frustration, John wrote to Raw Deal for help. We contacted More Than on his behalf and asked the insurance firm to look into it. Good news is that the company soon contacted John to apologise for the mistake. It also paid him compensation as a gesture of good will. “After Raw Deal got involved I got a phone call from the More Than,” said John. “It seemed that their computer did not recognise our new postcode. “They offered me a refund on my policy of £83.27 and also a further £75 for the inconvenience. “It is amazing what a call from Raw Deal can achieve.” John is now free to shop around for a new policy.
