PUB AT VILLAGE HOTEL, ABERDEEN

-

LOCATION

On the outskirts of the city – 15 minutes from the centre, five from the airport – in a busy, thriving business park. This spotless new hotel, spa, gym, bar and restaurant is great for a weekend away.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Warm and welcoming. It’s a modern take on Scottish traditions – tartan carpet, cosy armchairs, booths covered in plaid and warm textures. The Grill restaurant was shut so we went for lunch in the Village Pub. The high bar tables in dark wood and traditional green leather studded chairs and booths give a stylish and homely feel.

SERVICE

Our server was friendly and happily advised on the best flavour for the wings.

MENU

The huge menu offers a wide selection for lunchtime, including club sandwiches, burger stacks, wings, ribs, wraps, nachos or traditional pub grub like fish and chips, curry or pizzas.

TASTE

Our meals were nicely presented in trendy boxes and baskets. We couldn’t wait to get stuck in! The BLT club sandwich was full of flavour and the fries were so plentiful we couldn’t finish them. But sadly, it was all a bit downhill from there. The barbecue wings were fine, if uninspiring, but the tuna melt was completely missing the melt! The tuna tasted OK but the cheese was cold and hard – not great. Maybe it was an unlucky instance. but surely a melt should be melted?

PRICE

Around £35 for three generous-portioned lunches.

AMBIENCE

A fantastic spot for people watching. Situated in the midst of oil industry buildings, you can spot the high-powered deals being done. A laidback but buzzy mix of ladies lunching, business people, and locals at the bar.

SOMETHING SPECIAL

Some great offers in the restaurant area – from weekday “Two Dine for £29 including a glass of fizz” to “unlimited Sunday carvery with free ice-cream for the kids”, just £13.95 for adults.

TOILETS

Sleek modern design, spotless and plenty of them!

VERDICT

Promised more than it delivered but worth a return visit. 12/20
