Alloa boss Jim Goodwin was the happier of the two managers after watching his side battle to a point at East End Park. Goodwin was delighted with his recently-promoted side’s work. After the game he said: “I think a point on the road in this league is always a good result. “Over the game, we had chances to win it as well. “Defensively, I thought we were outstanding as a team, the effort and the commitment. “Overall, a fantastic team effort from all the boys – including the three we brought on. “It is a great point against a good team.” There wasn’t much football on display as neither side could take control throughout, Alloa packing the midfield and always looking to break while the Pars lacked any creativity or ingenuity to puncture a resolute backline. An uninspiring first half saw its best chances spurned by Myles Hippolyte for the Pars and Dario Zanatta for the visitors. First it was Hippolyte who was not quick enough to react when the ball fell to him eight yards out although it has to be said Neil Parry in the visiting goal did well to get out quickly and block with his legs. Zanatta then thought he had a clear site at breaking the deadlock but his thunderous effort was well blocked. The second half was no better than the first with the home fans venting their displeasure more and more as it progressed. This anger would have been multiplied immeasurably had Zanatta scored when put through one-on-one with the goalie. James Craigen, covering at right back, did fantastically well to slide in and block his strike. The home men would exert pressure throughout but could not create any clear cut chances. That left East End manager Allan Johnston to bemoan: “That wasn’t much of a game; both teams probably cancelled each other out. “It’s good to get a clean sheet but we have to do better with the forward players we have. “You are hoping for a wee bit of creativity but there were too many touches and not enough shots. There is a lot we can improve on.”
