Maddison and Vardy complete Foxes fightback

- sport@sundaypost.com By David Wragg

Huddersfield Town are still without a win this season and are bottom of the Premier League after squandering an early lead to lose 3-1 at Leicester City. Mathias Jorgensen put the visitors in front early on with only their third goal of the campaign, but Kelechi Iheanacho quickly equalised, marking his recall to the team with a goal. Second-half goals from James Maddison and Jamie Vardy respectively sealed the victory for Leicester, who returned to winning ways following successive defeats. Burnley ended their miserable start to the season in style with a thumping 4-0 win over in-form Bournemouth at Turf Moor to climb off the bottom of the table. Four straight defeats and only one point from five games for last season’s seventh-placed finishers was their worst start to a top-flight campaign for nearly a century. Bournemouth, by contrast, arrived in the top five after their best ever opening to a Premier League season, but quickfire goals from Matej Vydra on his full debut and Aaron Lennon eased the nerves. Substitute Ashley Barnes then added a late double to make it 4-0 – the first time Burnley have scored four in a game since December 2016. In yesterday’s early kick-off, Aleksandar Mitrovic’s second-half equaliser earned Fulham a 1-1 draw at home to high-flying Watford. The Serbia striker flicked home his fifth goal of the season with 12 minutes remaining at Craven Cottage to deny the visitors a fifth win from six Premier League games. Andre Gray had opened the scoring inside two minutes, but the Hornets had to settle for a point after spurning a number of chances to double their advantage. Whites boss Slavisa Jokanovic, facing his former club for the first time since leaving Vicarage Road in 2015, almost saw his side snatch a late winner when Mitrovic’s header was tipped on to the bar. Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur coasted past Brighton & Hove Albion in a 2-1 victory at the Amex Stadium. The win ended Spurs’ run of three straight defeats which had seen pressure mount on boss Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs dominated possession in heavy rain, before Harry Kane broke the deadlock with a firsthalf penalty after a Glenn Murray handball. Anthony Knockaert spurned a chance to equalise after 66 minutes, before Erik Lamela scored Spurs’ second from 12 yards. Knockaert pulled one back in stoppage time, but it was too little too late.
