n JUSTIN ROSE & HENRIK STENSON beat DUSTIN JOHNSON & BROOKS KOEPKA 2&1

Rose and Stenson confirmed their status as European rocks as they ground out a crucial win at the top of the board.

Having been rested for the morning session, they proved too strong in the alternate shot format for the World No.1 and this year’s winner of the US Open and US PGA.

It was Johnson and Koepka who cracked, with a couple of sloppy bogeys to fall two behind after.

And when the US duo threatened a late fightback, Stenson closed the door with two

brilliant clutch putts on 16 and 17. n SERGIO GARCIA & ALEX NOREN lost to BUBBA WATSON & WEBB SIMPSON 3&2

Garcia must wait to become the leading points scorer in Ryder Cup history as he and his Swedish partner suffered a surprise loss.

In fact, the only history on show was a piece of ignominy.

The par-three second became the first ever to be halved in triple bogeys as the Americans found the water twice and the Europeans once.

Watson and Simpson had both lost all their previous foursomes games, but were transformed from their showing on Friday afternoon.

Simpson, this year’s Players’ Champion, found his touch on the greens with a series of fine putts, including the one on the

16th to seal the point. FRANCESCO MOLINARI & TOMMY FLEETWOOD beat TIGER WOODS & BRYSON DECHAMBEAU 5&4

Molinari and Fleetwood made history as the pair became the first Europeans to win all four matches in a single Ryder Cup.

They did so with a flawless display of foursomes golf as they claimed the scalp of Woods for a third time in Paris.

DeChambeau became Tiger’s 14th different Ryder Cup partner, but it made little difference to ‘Moliwood’.

They began with a fine birdie and never looked back as they did not make any mistakes in moving five up at the turn.

Woods and his partner found a couple of birdies, but Fleetwood rounded it off in style at the 14th to huge acclaim from the galleries. IAN POULTER & RORY McILROY lost to JORDAN SPIETH & JUSTIN THOMAS 4&3

Thomas and Spieth stood up to be counted as this American pair kept up the fight with a commanding victory.

They handed their opponents a two-hole start with successive bogeys but when Poulter and McIlroy made a mess of the fourth, momentum switched.

Four out of five holes were won and suddenly the US team were on the charge. The back nine saw a succession of putts holed as Spieth and Thomas showed the passion normally associated with Poulter.

It was a sobering day for the Englishman, as the two young guns got the better of him in both morning and afternoon.
