In Strict confidence? I’m never going to be a great dancer
Strictly contestant Susannah Constantine took one of the show’s biggest pastings on her debut – but she’s hoping fun will help take her far. And she says she’d be thrilled to be this year’s Ed Balls. “If I’m in that role and am adding to the entertainment of the Strictly experience and people are enjoying it, that’s a brilliant result,” Susannah, 56, told The Sunday Post before taking to the dance floor last night. “It’s all about conveying a sense of fun. I’m never going to be a great ballroom dancer. I know my limitations, but if I can be fun and joyous then great.” Meanwhile, the former What Not To Wear star says she doesn’t mind a scoreboard slaying – she was labelled a car crash for her samba last week – but she wishes the judges would give a bit of help along with their verbal assault. She received a paltry 12 points for the samba and was given a one by Craig Revel Horwood, his lowest score in seven years. However, Susannah says that wasn’t what riled her. “I was surprised and pleased to get 12. But if someone is going to make a throwaway comment, it’d be quite nice if they’d give some constructive advice afterwards. Otherwise, it’s pretty pointless,” she said. “If they say I look like a drunk at a party, then what can I do to look less like that? But I did speak to Craig afterwards and we had a good chat. He’s a really nice man.” After the extravagant samba, it was a foxtrot to Frank Sinatra’s They Can’t Take That Away From Me last night for Susannah and Anton Du Beke, who is now the show’s only original professional. Susannah is odds-on to be the first celebrity to be voted off on tonight’s results show. However, she says she wasn’t worrying about the axe. “There’s no point in getting wound up about it,” insists Susannah. “All I can do is try and give the best performance within my capabilities.” And despite the low scoring and rough comments, Susannah said she was buoyed by the support from the public. “People were yelling out of their car windows, telling me I was amazing and wishing me luck. The support has been lovely.” Last night saw bookies’ favourite Faye Tozer, from Steps, dance the Viennese Waltz with pro Giovanni Pernice, while former Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts, also tipped to make the final, did a Cha Cha Cha with Pasha Kovalev.
