Warning over bleach used to treat disease

Scotland’s food crimes unit has issued a warning over a dangerous industrial bleach being touted as a cure for conditions such as autism and cancer. Mineral Miracle Solution (MMS) and other similar products traded under various names typically contain sodium chlorite, which is used as a bleach in high concentrations. It is claimed it can help conditions ranging from autism and cancer to HIV and Alzheimer’s, but has been linked to serious injuries and even deaths. The Scottish Food Crime and Incident Unit has now issued a warning about the mixture, which it said was prompted by a consumer complaint. It is appealing for anyone who has information on the sale or distribution of sodium chlorite products in Scotland to contact authorities. The warning states it is not suitable for human consumption and can cause a range of health issues, including severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea and damage to the gut and red blood cells which could even lead to respiratory failure. The statement added: “There are a range of alleged health benefits related to these products and all are unlikely to be authorised.” Jim Humble, inventor of MMS, claimed the Scottish Food Crime and Incident Unit’s claims were inaccurate. He added: “Several millions of people throughout the world have overcome their health problems using MMS.”
