Multi-tasking on the road to sporting glory

-

I’m in Austria at a WTA tour event running tennis workshops and clinics for female coaches and girls, but I’m also part of a forum for parents of promising young players; giving them tips for the journey they’re going on and preparing them for what lies ahead. It’s something I wish someone had been able to help me with when I was trying to learn it all. There simply wasn’t anyone in Scotland who had done that before so it was all about common sense. The onus is on parents to make everything happen if their child goes further in an individual sport. You become manager, travelling companion, launderette, taxi driver and human ATM machine. You don’t know whether the coach is telling you the right thing when they say your child needs four individual lessons a week and several overseas competitions… and it’s going to cost a fortune. It’s hard to find independent advice and that’s why I want to help.
