Big clubs could do a lot worse than deciding to go Dutch

-

You’ve got to applaud the top Dutch outfits, who are giving Champions League cash to other clubs in their domestic league. They’ve seen that their competition needs to be strengthened for the good of the national team – and they have acted. Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord are dishing out a cut of their European money for the greater good. It would be fantastic to see Celtic and Rangers do the same with some of their UEFA dosh. But whatever they handed over wouldn’t fix the problems Scottish football clubs have. I’ve said it before – the biggest problem our game has is the lack of a decent TV deal. The current agreement is dreadful, and it’s up to SPFL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, to sort it. The Premiership lags miles behind the other European leagues. I’m not just talking about the Premier League in England, either. I mean countries which we like to regard ourselves as bigger than in football terms. Until it gets sorted for the better, our clubs will always be playing catch-up with their European rivals. Celtic and Rangers could do their bit. But until the SPFL do theirs, it won’t make much difference.
