Couple are driven to distraction by delay to car crash payout

-

Bill and Margaret Nelson are celebrating after securing a better car insurance settlement than they were expecting following a motoring accident.

The couple’s Skoda Roomster was scrapped after Bill was in a collision with another vehicle in August.

“Because both airbags exploded, the AA recovery man deemed it a writeoff,” Margaret said of the crash.

The car was towed away for inspection to a nearby compound in Peterlee, county Durham, and a series of delays followed after a claim was lodged with insure company Esure.

The Nelsons travelled from their home in Thornaby-on-Tees to the compound to clear out their car but when they got there the vehicle couldn’t be found.

“When we got back home we were told that the car had finally been located,” Margaret said.

“But then we were advised that it was too far to send someone from Glasgow, where the engineers are based, to inspect it.

“We were then told that images of the car would be sent to Esure for

analysis but this never seemed to happen either.

“We felt we couldn’t get an answer from anyone about the status of our claim.”

In frustration, Margaret wrote to Raw Deal and we contacted Esure on her behalf.

Good news is that the Nelsons have now received £4,750 from the insurer for the write-off. “That is about £1,500 more than we were expecting, so we are very grateful,” Margaret said after receiving the payout.

The Nelson’s have now bought a Ford Focus as a replacement and are glad to be finally back on the road

Esure said: “A total loss settlement was agreed and this was paid after outstanding finance was cleared.”
