OK, commuters...your next move

Leave the hassles of city life behind and find serenity in the suburbs

COMMUTING

to and from the office is a daily chore for many – in fact, recent figures show 43% of Scots have to travel between three and 18 miles to work every day.

With rising house prices in Scotland’s cities, including a year-on-year increase of 7.7% in Edinburgh, more families are opting to settle down in outlying towns, where demand is growing for new properties.

Located a little under 20 miles from the Scottish capital’s city centre, the coastal town of Bo’ness is one such community that’s luring home-buyers away from the hustle and bustle of urban living.

Properties achieve £158,191 on average, compared to £264,745 in Edinburgh, and the close proximity makes it an ideal choice for commuters.

Featuring a collection of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes on the edge of the historic town, the final phase of Miller Homes’ Kinglass Fields development still has properties available for prospective buyers.

Leah and Marc Williamson moved into their home within the site in June this year, along with their three-year-old daughter Ella. The young family have quickly settled into their new life, and admit it was the perfect move thanks to the handy location.

“My husband is originally from Bo’ness but when I fell pregnant we decided to get a house near my mum and dad in Falkirk,” explained Leah, 29, who commutes into Edinburgh for work.

“Marc always said that he wanted to move back – but I said under no circumstances would I move unless it was to a new-build home. Then the new development from Miller Homes came up, so that’s when we decided to move.

“I got my lovely new house, and Marc moved closer to home. We’re literally less than a five-minute drive from the motorway, and then it’s only about 20 minutes to get into Edinburgh. It’s really the perfect location for getting into work, and the majority of our friends live in Bo’ness, too.”

She added: “We wanted to be within the catchment area for good schools and Deanburn Primary School is just five minutes away by car and when Ella is older, her high school will be within walking distance.” Perfectly suited for growing and larger families, the five-bedroom Jura Det is just one property type that’s available on selected plots at Kinglass Fields, from £331,995.

The detached property has a range of attractive features, such as a bay window in the front-facing lounge, French doors leading to the garden, and a gallery landing on the first floor. The master bedroom also boasts an en

suite and fitted wardrobes as standard.

The Williamsons opted for a three-bedroom Darwin home, which they loved being able to make their own right from the start.

Leah explained: “When I was 20 my mum and dad bought a new-build, so that’s what I liked and what I wanted for my family.

“I wanted to be able to pick everything and have it be my choice too, as I didn’t like

anything about the house we bought when I had Ella – we really just bought it because it was close to my mum and

dad. We wanted a

three-bedroom house, and the position is perfect.

“The next door neighbour’s garage attaches on to the back of the house, so it’s almost like a detached house. We don’t have anyone looking onto us.

“I like the kitchen-dining area, too. We didn’t have that in our last house, and that was something I really wanted.

“I didn’t want Ella to grow up not knowing how to sit at a table to eat dinner.”

She added: “Everything works for us in the house, and we have exactly what we wanted.”
