Falkirk remain bottom of the table despite stretching their unbeaten league run to five games.

Morton, meanwhile, are still in play-off contention despite now going five Championship matches without securing a win following yesterday’s stalemate at Falkirk Stadium.

Neutrals may be confused by this apparently contradictory information.

However, managers Ray McKinnon and Jonatan Johanssen were on hand last night to make sense of the situation.

Both agreed that a draw was a fair result.

And, in fairness, it was difficult to argue with their analysis. Especially when Rory McKeown and Robert Thomson went close for the visitors while Ruben Sammut and Deimantas Petravicius did likewise for the home side.

The closing ten minutes were by far the best of the full 90 with Paul Paton twice threatening to clinch Falkirk’s first home league win all season.

In a stirring finish, Charlie Telfer and substitute Ross MacLean both forced crucial saves from home keeper David Mitchell.

“Every point is a good point in this league,” said Bairns boss McKinnon.

“Seven weeks ago we didn’t have a single point, but we’ve lost just one game in seven since then.

“And we’re right there in the mix with Partick, Alloa and the rest.

“It’s all about small margins, but we’re in good form and we’re picking up points.”

Johanssen added: “I thought it was a valuable point away from home.

“We looked solid at the back, although we didn’t create that many chances.

“We went too direct in the second half, but I thought it was a fair result.

“It’s difficult to play in this bad weather and on such a big pitch, but the shape of our team was good today.

“This league is unbelievably tight and all five games were drawn today.

Johanssen said: “As long as we stay defensively solid, then we have a chance of getting ourselves into the play-offs.”
