Gift for my 50th? A watch

-

There is a big birthday for Corinne Hutton to celebrate next year and she knows exactly what she wants.

“I’m going to buy myself a good watch for my 50th” she said.

“I never had a good watch and obviously I couldn’t when I lost my hands.

“So I’m going to treat myself to a nice one.

“And I want to get a ring for every finger and jewellery, bracelets, for every birthday and Christmas.”

She is clearly determined to make the very most of her new hands.

She misses the freedom of driving and, as she previously got behind the wheel daily without hands, she hopes to be mobile again soon in the little sports car she picked up for a snip last year.

“I have to be careful about setting my sights too high and being disappointed,” says Corinne, who founded charity Finding Your Feet to improve the lot of other amputees.

“So I’m not going to be silly about it, but I’d like to think I could drive by the end of the month.

“The splints will be on for months but the dressings will be down soon and that’ll mean I’m not so bulky.

“Driving would be massive for me.”

And there are other little things Corinne is set to treasure.

“I’ll be able to tie a knot and to do zips.

“And I’m ready to get my nails painted. I haven’t done that for nearly six years.

“I’m going to do that in next week or two. A friend has already asked to pay for my first manicure.”
