How to make foundation choice just a shade on the easier side

-

Skin comes in every shade, colour and tone imaginable, so finding the right foundation can be a tricky process. Here, Anna shares how to get the perfect fit for your face.

Meet your match

The skin on our face is often a different colour to our neck and body, and Anna admits most women can struggle to find a suitable shade. She said:“When the lighting isn’t great, it’s difficult to match your foundation to the skin correctly. “A lot of people also love using fake tan and often match their face to their body – but as the colour continues to develop, their face looks lighter as the day goes on. “The face or jawline is the best place to get the most accurate colour match. “Having your foundation match your face is great, but if it doesn’t match your neck and chest you’ll need to adjust.”

Get to know your skin type

“In general liquid foundations are great for all skin types – you just need to find one that works best for your needs, including coverage and finish,” explained Anna. “Cream foundations are great for dry skin but can be heavy, so be careful with application. As a rule, it’s also best to avoid powder foundation, as most products can be too drying. “For oily skin, powder foundations are good for the daytime, but you won’t get the best coverage or longwear. “When using a liquid foundations, opt for an oil-free product with a matte finish. And avoid cream foundations, as they can be too heavy for oily complexions.”

Lasting finish

After a long day, it’s common to find your make-up has made a run for it – quite literally! Anna advises to start with a good base to ensure long-lasting coverage. She said:“Cleanse, moisturise, add serum and finish with primer – foundation will never apply well or look its best if the skin hasn’t been prepped properly. “People often feel they need a lot of foundation to receive ultimate coverage but this isn’t the case, so remember that a little goes a long way. “And lastly set your make-up, use a setting spray – great for all skin types – or a little setting powder for more oily faces. “If applied correctly, you shouldn’t need to reapply your foundation throughout the day – and you’ll avoid a ‘cakey’ finish.”

Say no to shine

Anna explained:“Using a mattifying primer, avoiding too much highlighter, and a matte-finish setting spray will all help to keep shine at bay.” Visit barrym.com
