Targett may go as Saints close in on Adams
Southampton are closing in on the signing of Birmingham forward Che Adams, with Matt Targett expected to leave St Mary’s for Aston Villa. The transfer fee for Adams is expected to be similar to the amount received for left-back Targett.
Adams has scored 34 Sky Bet Championship goals in 116 appearances at St Andrew’s since joining from Sheffield United in 2016, including 22 last term.
He would boost Ralph Hasenhuttl’s attacking options, which currently include Danny Ings, Shane Long and Charlie Austin.
Academy product Targett has made 43 Premier League appearances for Saints, including 16 last season, scoring once.
The 23-year-old helped Fulham win promotion to the top flight during a loan spell in 2018.
Watford forward Jerome Sinclair has agreed to join Dutch club VVV-Venlo on loan.
The 22-year-old will spend the entire 2019/20 campaign with the Eredivisie side, who finished 12th last term.
Sinclair had loan spells with Sky Bet League One clubs Sunderland and Oxford in 2018/19, scoring six goals in 35 games over the course of the season.The former England youth player began his career with Liverpool and, after a loan move to Wigan, arrived at Vicarage Road in 2016.
He has made nine Premier League appearances for the Hornets.
Huddersfield have appointed Colin Bell as assistant head coach.
Bell joins Jan Siewert’s backroom staff from his post as head coach of the Republic of Ireland Women’s team.
The 57-year-old, who previously coached in Germany for 23 years, replaces Andreas Winkler, who left the Sky Bet Championship Terriers on Friday.
Town boss Siewert said: “I’m so happy to be able to welcome Colin to Huddersfield.
“He has a fantastic reputation in Germany as a top-quality coach, that he’s really earned.
“He’s been a head coach, a supporting coach and the head of academies at very high levels and can offer so much. I’m delighted he has accepted our offer.”
