Sandy beaches, fun pools, super views and great grub, there’s plenty to keep your kids amused

Glenmore

Across the road from Glenmore Visitor Centre and adjacent to Loch Morlich Watersports Centre. Extensive grassy site on lochside with trees and mountain views. Loads of activities include watery ones, reindeer and at the Coylumbridge Hotel. There’s a pool and the Fun House, a separate building full of stuff to amuse kids of all ages. Shop at site entrance, café and bar. campingintheforest.co.uk 01479 861271

Sango Sands

Great location overlooking sea in downtown Durness with most things you would want, including a pub (The Oasis), though food is average, so go to The Café at Balnakeil 2km) away. View only obstructed by campervans. Plenty to do round here – beaches, Smoo Cave, Balnakeil Craft Village, etc. Well run and very friendly. sangosands.com 07838381065

Seal Shore

In the south of Arran, the emerging fun place to be, with a long littoral to wander and open views to Pladda Island. Smallish, intimate greenfield site for 40 plus campers and caravans. BBQ, day room and hotel adjacent for grub and pub. “We’re always in the UK top 20,” says Mr D, who will brook no nonsense from naughty kids or naughty parents. Bus stop nearby. campingarran.com 01770 820320

Kinloch

Friendly, family-run grassy campsite on Glendale road by Dunvegan. Not so caravan heavy – choose your own pitch from many. Good location for NW Skye wanderings and eating-out options in Dunvegan, especially Jann’s Cakes and The Old School Restaurant. kinloch-campsite.co.uk 01470 521531
