Everton looking likely to add Delph to squad

-

Everton are set to sign midfielder Fabian Delph from Manchester City for a fee of £8.5million which could rise to £10m with add-ons.

The England international (29), who had 12 months remaining on his contract, will end a four-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.

Delph was restricted to just 11 Premier League appearances last season for City, who paid a club-record £62.8m fee for Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri earlier this month.

Former Leeds and Aston Villa player Delph started for England in their Nations League Finals games against Holland and Switzerland in June.

He won two Premier League titles with City and won his 20th senior England cap in the penalty shoot-out win against Switzerland.

Ajax have announced defender Matthijs De Ligt has been left out of their squad for their summer tour to Austria pending “a possible transfer”.

Teenager De Ligt, a target for several of Europe’s biggest clubs, is reported close to sealing a move to Italian champions Juventus.

Ajax said in a statement on their official website: “Ajax left Saturday afternoon with 28 players to the training camp in Bramberg, Austria. Awaiting a possible transfer, Matthijs De Ligt does not travel with the group.”

Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris St Germain have all been linked with De Ligt this summer, but it has been reported in Italy that Ajax and Juventus have agreed a £71.6million deal for the 19-year-old.

Conor Hourihane has signed a new deal at Aston Villa, the Premier League new boys have announced.

The 28-year-old midfielder has made over 100 appearances for the club since joining in 2017 and played a key role as they secured promotion back to the top flight via the play-offs in May.

“Aston Villa is delighted to announce Conor Hourihane has signed a contract extension ahead of the new Premier League season,” Villa announced on their official website.

“Hourihane has completed a remarkable rise as a player from League Two to the Premier League in just five years – competing in every EFL division along the way.”

The Republic of Ireland international made over 100 appearances for both Plymouth and Barnsley before Villa signed him from the latter in January 2017.
