How to make sure your make-up will beat the heat this summer

-

We wait all winter long for a few rays of sunshine and higher temperatures...And when summer does arrive, we spend the next few months worrying about melting make-up. Here,Viorela explains how to keep your cosmetics looking cool as a cucumber, using a three-level pyramid system of moisturisers, primers, setting powders and sprays.

Skincare

According to Viorela, who has worked with the likes of Chanel and Burberry, skincare is the first and most important step for ensuring long-lasting make-up. She explains: “It’s so important to use the right products for your skin type. “For normal to dry skin, consider using a serum and moisturiser before any cosmetics, and it’s even better if the product has an SPF rating. La Roche-Posay’s Hydraphase UV Intense Light Moisturiser (£16.99) is a good option. “Those with combination to oily skin should prepare with Bioderma’s Sebium range, such as the Pore Refiner (£15.50) or the Mat Control moisturiser (£7.50), as they work wonders for keeping extra shine under control. “I’d also recommend using a primer, before foundation – it will be your secret weapon against shine! Clarins’ Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch (£26.50) is one of my go-to primers.”

Foundation or BB cream

Choosing the right cover-up for your complexion is key, says Viorela. “If you are looking for buildable, medium to full coverage, Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (£27) is a great choice – plus, it’s available in 50 shades! “And Clarins’ Everlasting Foundation with SPF 15 (£30) is another favourite of mine.” She adds: “If you prefer a BB cream, I recommend Bare Minerals’ Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturiser (£29) and Bioderma’s Sensibio AR BB Cream (£16) is great for skin prone to redness.”

Powders and sprays

Viorela explains: “Once you have applied your make-up, it’s time to seal the deal. “The Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder by Charlotte Tilbury (£34) is one of the best finishing powders I have used and I can’t live without! It seals make-up and fills in pores, creating a wow effect. “However, if you want to go all the way, you need to use a setting spray, too. Different formulas are available for different finishes and effects, satin, glowing or matte. “My latest obsession is Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray with aloe herbs and rosewater (£7). It’s truly refreshing and smells heavenly.”
