Stay

Escaping the hustle and bustle of the city’s iconic Promenade des Anglais, the Old Town’s boutique hotels are just the ticket for a relaxing stay. Hidden down a narrow, cobbled street, the Hôtel Rossetti provides modern comforts in a traditional setting, and there is even a lovely terrace overlooking the dome of the 17th-Century Nice Cathedral.

Food

Sitting on the stunning Côte d’Azur, it’s no wonder Nice offers seafood aplenty, as well as classic French fare. Often touted as one of the best fish restaurants in the city, head to Peixes, which is just a short walk from the Fountain of the Sun and the Opera House. Delicate portions of mussels, scallops, ceviche and octopus are served up from the open kitchen, with its bright, modern decor. And, of course, no trip to France would be complete without a pastry or two. Boulangeries sit on almost every corner, so pop in for a pain au chocolat fresh from the oven, washed down with a quick shot of dark espresso.

Drink

For panoramic views of the seaside, La Terrasse at Le Méridien hotel doesn’t disappoint. Located on the 10th floor, overlooking the Promenade des Anglais, the terrace bar oozes French chic, and is the perfect place to sip an Aperol Spritz while watching the world go by below.

See

To get an overview of the city’s history and hotspots, hop on Le Petit Train. As the name suggests, the small locomotive drives through the main centre of town, while an audio tour guides you through the sites and sounds. Relaxing with the wind in your hair, it’s a great way to escape the summer heat, while still seeing the busting streets – plus you’ll cover plenty of miles without sore feet! Once you’ve stopped for an ice cream, make for Castle Hill via the Art Deco lift. Once home to a citadel fortress, visitors to the green hilltop will now find a beautiful water wall and views across the city. You can also reach the peak by stairs, but it’s not for the faint of heart or weak of knees! Finish the day strolling along the main promenade – c’est magnifique.
