Going out Restaurant of the week

-

Tapa, 19 Shore Place, Edinburgh

Location

Tucked away from the Shore’s busy waterfront, it would be quite easy to miss the eatery, which is housed inside a converted warehouse. Watch your step on the cobbles, too!

First impressions

The simple decor keeps the dining room looking fresh and welcoming. We loved the twinkling fairy lights strung around the stone pillars.

Service

Friendly and attentive, the owners Dan and Greg are more than happy to give recommendations and are clearly passionate about their authentic food. Muy bien!

Menu

Packed with lots of fresh ingredients, there is something for everyone on the eatery’s various menus. We visited at lunch, taking advantage of the El Clasico sharing platter which costs just £15 for two. If you are feeling famished or visit at dinner time, a wider menu filled with meat, fish and vegetarian dishes is also available. It’s recommended you order three portions per person. Those with allergies and dietary requirements are also well looked after.

Taste

With fresh flavours and interesting combinations, there were arguments over who got to enjoy the last spoonful from each plate! The classic patatas bravas (fried potatoes topped with spicy salsa) were better than some we previously sampled in Barcelona, and the sweet and savoury berenjenas con miel, or aubergine crisps with honey, was delicately balanced.

Price

Dishes range from £2 for “Para Picar”, or “little nibbles”, and £9.95 for larger tapas. The set lunch menu is a fab affordable option.

Ambience

Relaxed and casual, it’s a great place for both big crowds and date night.

Toilets

Large, clean and well stocked, so no complaints from us.
