KT out – and Amoruso’s not happy

- By Danny Stewart sport@sundaypost.com

Scotland will have to do without the country’s mostexpensive player ever for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Russia and Belgium next month.

Kieran Tierney finally made his £25-million switch from Celtic to Arsenal on Thursday.

However, despite Hoops manager Neil Lennon’s assertion that the 22-yearold could be back in action in a couple of weeks, it is understood his new employers believe he will need to sit out the international break.

They are targeting the away match against Watford on September 15 as the first possible opportunity to give him his Gunners debut.

The London giants held off interest from Napoli to secure Tierney’s signature.

And former Rangers captain, Lorenzo Amoruso, has voiced his surprise Tierney did not instead sign for the Serie A outfit.

“I thought he would end up in Carlo Ancelotti’s team because of the way they play,” said the Italian, who made the move to England in 2003 when he left Rangers for Blackburn Rovers.

“Napoli focus on throwing their full-backs forward, and Tierney is very good at getting down the wing and getting crosses into the middle.

“In general, he is a player I like a lot as he is aggressive on the pitch and never gives up.

“But he has chosen Arsenal rather Napoli, and I am looking forward to seeing how he fares in England. At his young age, he still has plenty of scope to grow and improve.

“Being involved alongside, and against, so many top players can be a great advantage to his career.”
