Thistle turmoil not an excuse, says Cardle
Joe Cardle is adamant the Partick Thistle players won’t use off-the-field turmoil as an excuse for poor performances.
The Jags lost to Dundee United on Friday night after a week dominated by news of boardroom battles.
Lotto millionaire Colin Weir called an end to his financial support of the club as rumours persist of a takeover by US businessmen.
Doubts about Thistle’s financial affairs were fuelled by the revelation that players made their own way to last weekend’s match at Alloa after no team bus was provided.
Cardle said: “We let the off-the-field stuff take care of itself. We still don’t have a clue what’s going on.
“We concentrate on the football side of things and we’re gutted we lost the game against United.
“The club’s in a bit of turmoil at the moment because nobody really knows what’s going on, but the manager has been spot on.
“He made us concentrate on the training pitch but unfortunately we didn’t repay him.
“It was a good, upbeat week – which you might be surprised about.
“There’s no excuses about that side of things.
“The main thing is no excuses from the players. The training has been great. We have to let events take care of themselves.
“We’ll be in on Monday and concentrating on preparing for Ross County in the League Cup at the weekend.
“That’s about being professional. It’s the way we have to be.”
Cardle knows all about money problems and the way they wreak havoc at football clubs.
He was made redundant by Dunfermline during their crisis of 2013.
The 32-year-old said: “At Dunfermline there were people getting told your name’s on a piece of paper and you’re on your way.
“Hopefully it won’t come to that here. “I love it here. I’ve loved it since the day I walked in and that’s why I stayed in the summer.
“Taking cars to a game is not a big deal. I’m used to that with the boys. Five of us travel in from Fife every day.”
