Izaguirre has finally found his way home

-

Emilio Izaguirre has signed for his first club in Honduras after failing to clinch a return to European football, or the MLS.

The 33-year-old Honduran full-back left Parkhead for a second time in the summer after winning 13 winner’s medals with the Hoops in two spells since originally joining from Motagua nine years ago.

He returned to Celtic last August after an ill-fated spell in Saudi Arabia with Al-Fayha, and revealed earlier this summer he’d rejected a new deal with Neil Lennon’s side.

And he’s now signed a one-year deal with Motagua in his homeland, after his attempts to move elsewhere were unsuccessful.

Izaguirre said: “I have signed for a year, but there is a clause that if I can find a club abroad after six months, I can leave for nothing.

“I’ve been back training with Motagua for several weeks now, and I am looking forward to returning to where it all began for me.

“God willing, I will do my best for my club, and the move means I don’t have to travel far now for international duty.

“Honduran football is on the up, and it’s great to be back.”

▪ Former Rangers goalkeeper Scott Gallacher is set to return to training after a year out with a horror knee injury, and resume his career at Airdrie.

The 30-year-old, who has also played for Cowdenbeath, Forfar, Hearts, Alloa, St Mirren, Hibs and Dumbarton, joined the Diamonds last summer.

But just six games into his career with the Lanarkshire club, Gallacher was crocked.

The Scotland under-21 cap is pencilled in to return to training in a fortnight.

Manager Ian Murray said: “Scott was actually injured before I came to the club, so he will be like a new signing for me.

“Getting back on to the training pitch will be a big step forward, and hopefully Scott will be available for selection before we get too far into the new season.”

▪ Cowdenbeath’s new blue-and-white striped shirt, which pays homage to the 1970 side which took them into the topflight for the first and only time since the Second World War, is proving to be a hit.

The 50th anniversary strip has almost sold out, and a fresh supply has been ordered from a manufacturer in Italy.
