More than 1,700 people joined Oor Wullie’s army yesterday to raise money for Scotland’s bravest children. The fundraisers hit the streets for Oor Wullie’s charity walk in aid of the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. Supporters took either a 3k or 10k route round the Big Bucket Trail in Glasgow’s West End before celebrating at a family fun day.
Fans of Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail are already making tracks for next month’s farewell parties.
A series of special events are being staged around Scotland next month to mark the end of the fundraising sculpture trail.
Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness and Dundee are all holding special farewell gatherings between September 13 and 15.
The statues are set to go up for auction in September – and funds raised through the trail will support Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Edinburgh Children’s
Hospital Charity and the ARCHIE Foundation, helping children in hospital across the country.
And as well as meeting the Oor Wullies one last time, there will be opportunities to pick up Big Bucket Trail figurines.
If you haven’t visited all the Wullie sculptures yet, don’t worry – the Big Bucket Trail is set to run until August 30.
But you’ll have to move fast. Tickets for the Glasgow event, at the SEC, sold out in just a couple of days – with over 6,000 snapped up in 48 hours.
Visitors will have the chance to see all 58 of the large Oor Wullie sculptures in Scotland’s largest city, as well as all 150 wee Oor Wullie sculptures painted by schools and community groups.
The Farewell Event in Dundee is being held at Slessor Gardens, and will feature 36 Oor Wullies.
The same number of sculptures can be found at the Farewell event at Marischal College Quad in Aberdeen.
And Inverness Big Bucket Trail fans can say goodbye to the 10 Oor Wullie statues at Eastgate Shopping Centre.
Last week four older fans did part of the trail in style, as they visited 20 Wullie statues around Glasgow in a limousine.
Hannah Kilcogyne, Helen Smith, Madge Anderson and Eileen Booth, residents of Whitecraigs Care Home in Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire, said they had a great day out.
