THE EMAILS
From: Tom Inns Date: October 12, 2018, at 11.21pm
I am very, very concerned about the position the GSA has been put in this evening. I met Muriel Gray yesterday and she told me that based on her judgement I was to be signed off on sick leave due to stress and could only resume working when I had been assessed and deemed fit to work by GSA’s occupational health advisor, an interesting move when Muriel is not actually the functioning chair of the board at the moment and I am completely well. As a result she told me that I cannot attend GSA’s board of governors meeting on Monday.
This is a totally bizarre situation to be put in, although the last 16 weeks have been stressful, I am totally capable of fulfilling the roles of GSA director.
As a consequence of coming to work today, Muriel has instructed GSA’s IT team to suspend my IT access.
As a result nobody can communicate with me as of this evening and I am sending this from my personal account.
I am extremely concerned about the vulnerable position this puts GSA in over the coming days.
I am the director and chief executive of GSA with a responsibility for over 400 staff and over
2,500 students and yet without warning and with no communication to my direct reports or GSA staff, email communication with me has been suspended.
Should there be an emergency or critical incident over the weekend our normal communication links have been compromised. I am extremely concerned about the position this puts Glasgow School of Art in.

Dear Tom
I have tried to call you but have been unable to get hold of you. You are continuing to work despite being explicitly instructed to stop working until occupational health input regarding your fitness to work can be obtained. This is unacceptable.
If I do not receive positive assurance from you by 6pm that you have ceased working and will not carry out any work activities until you have attended occupational health, then I will arrange for your IT access to be temporarily removed.
I do not wish to take this step but given our concerns about your fitness to work and your continuing refusal to stop working I feel I
must take this decision.
