The Three Dons Musketeers put fear in County

- By Danny Stewart sport@sundaypost.com

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes believes his front three are capable of terrorising any defence in the Premiership.

Between them Sam Cosgrove, Ryan Hedges and Niall McGinn came up with two goals and two assists in the Dons’ 3-0 victory over Ross County.

And with Cosgrove scoring his 10th goal in 10 games, it was a content manager who reflected on his club’s biggest win since December.

“I’m very pleased,” he said. “Our front three pulled their defence all over the park. Between them they did well enough to win the game.

“I’ve said often enough our wide players have to contribute and there was no question both Niall and Ryan did that in this match.

“I spoke to Ryan during the week and he is working hard to maintain the standard.

“We all know wide players can be a bit up and down in their performances and he was certainly on it today.

“If you looked at the chances we didn’t take you will see they were all in the right areas looking for the ball.

“That is very pleasing and if they keep up that form they will be a handful for all defences this season.

“I was pleased to see them get their reward; I was pleased to see all the players get their reward for I thought our performance was very good.

“It was a good team performance and shows what can be done when we are more positive.

“We’ve picked up three points against a team which has come up used to winning so I’m delighted to win and to keep the clean sheet.”

Ross County joint manager Steven Ferguson was philosophical about a loss that made it 10 goals conceded in the Highlanders last three outings.

“I am disappointed to lose the game but nobody said it was going to be easy,” he said.

“A club like Ross County playing in the Premier League means we are going to be under pressure. Aberdeen were under pressure going into this game and we knew they would be full on.

“We came unstuck from a couple of setplays and when you are 2-0 down you have a mountain to climb.

“We weren’t able to break Aberdeen down and credit to them because everybody was jumping on the bandwagon over their start.

“They deal with the game very well and we are disappointed with the way things panned out. We’ll take the positives, learn and when we get a few players back that will help this squad just now which is trying its very, very best.”
