Fascinating show by our greatest explorer
£25 STAR LETTER
I enjoyed a recent trip to the Theatre Royal to hear a talk by Ranulph Fiennes, the world’s greatest living explorer. It was a fascinating insight into the breathtaking and often dangerous missions undertaken by these undaunted and brave men and women.
I bought his autobiography and he signed it for me. I enjoyed a chat with him and that made it a memorable evening for me.
Iain Henderson, Glasgow
Our shame
I have just been reading about the little boy Ellis Whytock. I am really shocked he has been refused new drugs to help his cystic fibrosis.
He has been in hospital continually since he was born. It’s heartbreaking for his mum and dad. They say the drug is too expensive. It makes me ashamed to be Scottish. I pray none of my family ever needs an expensive medicine. Elizabeth Stewart, Glasgow
Auld enemy
Regarding Nick Nairn having problems with Scottish notes. Our banknotes are technically not legitimate currency, even here in Scotland.
However, he may be interested to note that Bank of England banknotes are legitimate currency in England and Wales only. Ken Darroch, East Renfrewshire
Good sport
Well done to the Scottish rugby team on their win against France at Murrayfield on Saturday. Lovely sunshine, happy atmosphere and smiling faces were the result. Kathie Dixon, Dalkeith
Wullie woes
I was absolutely furious to read in The Sunday Post that the Oor Wullie statue Oor Floo’ers O’ Scotland is situated in St John’s Centre, under the heading Dundee. It is in Perth.
He is absolutely beautiful and I will miss him as I pass by on my weekly shop. Ruby Mills, Perth
Sigh road
Scotland has been my home for most of my life. It saddens me to see the country being dragged more and more into the mire.
The new children’s hospital in Edinburgh, the Caledonian MacBrayne ferries, all the police areas amalgamated into an underfunded Police Scotland.
Our education system was once top of the league. Look at it now, down to 10 at the last count and dropping.
Then we have the problems women have had to endure with mesh implants. Has anything been done to solve their misery?
All we hear is there are “funding problems”.
The First Minister seems to delegate the explanations to ministers.
Her only interests are independence and Europe. Tom McLaren, Edinburgh
Engine steer
Just to point out that the bottom-left picture in the Images of the Week feature (Sunday Post, August 25) shows a miniature traction engine, not a train as captioned. It is not running on rails...
Traction engines were used for road haulage, as well as agricultural work, including the powering of farm machinery via transmission belts. Jeff Lewis, Whitefield
Toon time
It was great to have PC Murdoch’s Mysteries back last week.
I know the cartoon is new but I missed it! A Larkin, Denny
