Prime Suspect detective: Tobin is most evil man
The police officer whose life inspired Prime Suspect character DCI Jane Tennison considers serial killer Peter Tobin as “the most evil man alive”.
Jackie Malton, whose detective skills saw her break through the ranks in London’s Metropolitan Police as one of the first female DCI’s, investigates Tobin for a new crime series.
The Real Prime Suspect takes a unique look at the effect the killer’s crimes have had on those who brought them to justice.
Jackie said: “Instead of glorifying the actions of serial killers like Tobin, we look behind the crimes at the effect they have on those who have lost loved ones, and the toll on the officers and professionals whose job it is to bring these monsters to justice.”
Jackie will look at Tobin and the disturbing case of Theresa Riggi – the Edinburgh mother who killed her three children rather than lose them in a custody battle – alongside those of the Black Panther Killer, Donald Neilson, and Rachel Nickell’s murderer, Robert Napper.
She said: “The Real Prime Suspect is a game changer because we truly are working alongside the professionals who brought these killers to justice, getting their unique perspective into each case, detective talking to detective.
“In Tobin’s case, former Detective Superintendent David Swindle, who ran Operation Anagram, believes he is the most evil man alive – and I have to agree.”
The series begins on Tuesday on CBS Reality.
