Restaurant of the week

The Courtyard, Mains of Taymouth, Kenmore

-

Location

In the heart of the gorgeous village of Kenmore. Surrounded by rolling hills and stunning scenery, it’s the perfect place to grab a bite.

First impressions

With wood-burning fires and leather sofas, The Courtyard has a relaxed vibe. It’s dog-friendly and a lot of customers bring their furry friends along. Great if you like dogs, probably not if you don’t!

Service

Our waiters are friendly and efficient enough, but fail to draw our attention to the specials board which actually, we later realised, had some nice choices.

Menu

Standard pub grub. The menu is varied… everything from breakfasts to sandwiches and light bites for lunch. There’s also salads, stonebaked pizzas, a burger bar, and classic mains, like curry, chilli and mac cheese. If anything, you’ll find yourself spoiled for choice – and taking forever to decide because there’s too much to choose from!

Taste

The vegetable fajitas got the thumbs up as did the creamy and cheesy macaroni cheese. Pretty standard pub grub. The rack of ribs, steak pie and fish and chips were nice too – and boasted generous portions. Kids portions were pretty big. In fairness, one would probably do two younger ones. The pizza and sausages and beans were a hit.

Price

The bill came in at just over £100 for four adults and two children with drinks and a couple of starters to share. Perfectly reasonable for a bar meal.

Ambience

Friendly, warm and relaxed. There’s also an outdoor seating area which is lovely on a hot day (although we don’t get many of them in Scotland), especially with a cold beer in hand.

Toilets

Reminded us of the bogs at school with so many cubicles. Guess it means you’ll never have to wait long to spend a penny! Nothing to write home about, but clean.

P.S.

Pop into the shop next door for some homemade fudge. In a whole host of flavours, from Irn-Bru to gin and tonic, you’re guaranteed to find a sweet treat to take home for later.
